Laser Vision Corrections
If you’re new to the idea of having laser surgery to correct your vision, we’re here to provide medical information and answer all the questions you have about what the procedure entails. When you come in for your consultation at Goel Vision, we’ll go over your medical and health history to ensure that you’re a good candidate for laser eye surgery. While the procedure is a great fit for most people, there are some health conditions and eye injuries that could mean LASIK isn’t a good fit for you. People who qualify for laser eye surgery are over the age of 18 with fully mature eyes, in general, good health, and have healthy eyes. We’ll need to check your vision correction prescription to ensure that your vision can be corrected with LASIK. If you have a very high prescription, LASIK may not be a good fit for you.
At your consultation, we’ll examine your eyes and talk with you about the procedure. There are several different types of LASIK procedures, and together, we’ll choose the one that makes the most sense for your needs. We’ll also give you pre-surgical instructions that will prepare you for your procedure.
LASIK: What To Expect
On the day of your LASIK procedure, you’ll need to bring someone with you who can drive you home after your surgery is finished. We ask that you come to the office with a clean, makeup-free face to reduce the risk of contamination during your surgery. We’ll also ask that you stop wearing contact lenses a few days before the procedure, as they may change the shape of your eyes over time. For LASIK to be fully effective, your eyes need to be in a completely natural, unaltered state.
At the start of your procedure, your eye surgeon will numb your eyes with drops that will stop you from feeling pain. Lasers will be used to create a 3D model of your eye, making any corneal abnormalities apparent. This will allow our computer to generate a personalized plan for precise laser surgery, executed by our surgeon. A small incision will be made on the surface of your eye with a laser, allowing your surgeon to gain access to the cornea. You may feel some pressure or discomfort, but you should not feel any pain. Then, the cornea will be reshaped, which corrects your near or farsightedness. The procedure typically takes about 15 minutes per eye.
After the procedure, you may experience some discomfort, such as burning or feeling like you have something stuck in your eye. You mustn’t touch your eye, as you may interfere with the natural healing process of the incision. We recommend resting at home after your procedure. Within 24 hours, you’ll return to the office for a follow-up appointment. We’ll check to make sure that your eyes are healing properly and answer any questions that you may have about your recovery.
